MINDEX: How to Manually Upgrade your System files.

Caution: The following assumes a basic knowledge of Windows, in particular browsing and saving files. If you are at all unsure about what you are doing, please STOP and ask someone that does understand Windows.  Please note that if you mess this part up and we have to site-visit to resolve any resulting problems, you will receive an Invoice!

At regular intervals, you should upgrade your system to obtain all of the new features that are constantly being added to MINDEX. If you look at  the top right corner of your screen, you'll see the currently installed version number, eg: v10.09.03 was released on 3-Sep-2010. Before you start,  note which version you have installed.

If you are able to perform upgrades automatically (by pressing Ctrl+u from the MINDEX Main Menu), then you don't need to read any more of this help screen. Go here instead.

First, you need to establish where your system files are held. Get MINDEX running and from the Main Menu, press 's - Show Current System Status'. On that display page you'll see 'System Folders' and you should note that setting. In particular, note which drive (C: thru Z:) and the actual system folder itself which will normally be \MINDEX.SYS .

1. Write down the following information:
    a. The drive on which your \MINDEX.SYS folder exists.
    b. The version currently installed.

2. Get your web browser running and go to  www.medistat.net

3. Click on 'MINDEX_Support (Licensed Users)'.

4. Enter your Username (eg 621321) and the password agreed with you in May-2010.

5. Click on 'MINDEX Upgrade'.

6. After accepting the contents of that page, click on 'Accept'.

7. Click on 'Save file'. Do NOT click on 'Open with'.

8. Depending on how your browser is set up, you'll be either:

     a. Given the choice of where to save the upgrade file - this should be into your \MINDEX.SYS folder on the correct drive

                  or

      b. Advised that it's downloading into your Windows Download folder. If this happens, you'll need to right-click on the file  MIND_UPG.SYS  once it's downloaded and open the containing folder and then copy that file into \MINDEX.SYS.

9. Close your web browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox/Chrome).

10. Browse to your \MINDEX.SYS folder and confirm that the file MIND_UPG.SYS has been saved and is at least 5mB in size. This file should bear the current date and time. If these facts don't match then STOP and go back to Step 1 above.

11. Assuming that MIND_UPG.SYS has been satisfactorily saved and that it has the correct date/time stamp on it and is at least 5MB in size, you should now get MINDEX running. From the Main menu, press Ctrl+h.  The upgrade will now be installed.

Please note that unless the above instructions are followed exactly as listed, your upgrade will fail and your system files will potentially be muddled up. if this happens and we need to site visit, you will be charged.

Known issues:
1. Some hospital networks are set up so that if you browse to any websites and download files, older versions of those files that have been retained locally on the servers are presented. For all intents and purposes, you think you have have downloaded the file from our website but in practice, you have been given that older version held locally. If this happens, everything looks fine, the install proceeds normally but you end up with an older version that has been sitting in the network cache. There is only one solution: get whoever manages your network to flush the web browsing cache. Simpler - provide them with the link of this page so that they may read this paragraph.
2. Some browsers are set up to save all downloads with a .zip extension. This can result in the file MIND_UPG.SYS being saved as either MIND_UPG.SYS.ZIP or MIND_UPG.ZIP. If this happens and you should notice it at stage 10 above and you will need to manually rename the file to MIND_UPG.SYS.
