MINDEX: Creating/Editing Report Documents.

1.0.0 There are two methods of report generation within MINDEX.

1.0.1  The first is by using the [old] internal text editor that has been inside MINDEX since 1987.

1.0.2  The second is by using the Word interface to create and edit reports outside of MINDEX. In this case, the Word documents are held inside the MINDEX database but are displayed and edited/amended by Word.

1.0.3  This help page relates to systems that DO have the MINDEX:Word interface implemented.  If you do NOT have the Word interface implemented then you should NOT read this page unless you are determined to become very confused.

1.0.4  If you choose a report document from the patient data screen (ie: the a,b,j,k,l....z) and a document has never been created, then a new Word document is created. This new Word document has all of the patient data such as name, address, dob etc merged into the header. Word is then opened and that new document is then presented to you so that you may then enter the report text in whatever way that you choose.

1.0.5  If you choose a report document from the patient data screen (ie: the a,b,j,k,l....z) and a document has already been created, then Word is opened and that existing document is presented to you for printing, amending or whatever.

1.0.6  In either case, when you exit Word,  that document will remain attached to the patient record forever. Note that you must save any changes.

1.0.7  If however, you wish to create a report document in MINDEX by using the internal editor (ie: not using Word) then you must hold down the Ctrl key at the same time as choosing the document a,b,j,k,l....z . Doing this will create a different report type which must not be confused with Word. Once you have created a report by using the Crtl key, you can not move that report text into Word.

1.0.8.  Note that once a document has been created with either Word or the MINDEX editor, that document remains in that format. In other words, if you create one in Word then you can't change it to a MINDEX editor type. Equally if you create it as a MINDEX editor type then you can never change it into a Word type.

1.0.9  Once a document has been created by Word then subsequent opening of that document will always be in Word.

1.1.0  Once a document has been created in the internal MINDEX editor (as per 1.0.7 above) then subsequent opening of that document will not be in Word.

1.1.1  For example, assuming that no document already exists in slot a, pressing '^a' creates a new MINDEX (non-Word) document.

1.1.2  On the other hand, again assuming that no document exists in slot a, pressing 'a' creates a new Word document thru the MINDEX:Word interface.

As clear as mud I hear you all say!... if anyone really doesn't understand this, PLEASE ask and we'll try to elaborate or further clarify it all.
